What gives a government the right to rule over people?
No one has the right to rule over one another. But we have lots of people involved in our government so it's better that way.

Reece's Homework

1.on a big country because it has a lot of land

2.because we need a ruler

3.none

4.yess

5.not really

Chapter 3

1. If I had to establish civilization on a different planet I would choose Mars. I would choose Mars because it is similar to earth. They are both about the same size and about the same gravitational pull. I also think that Mars would be a good place for civilization because Mars has water (weather or not if it is drinkable)

2. I think that the government can rule over people because the people chose who they wanted to rule over them and the people accepted them to be part of the government.

3. I think that sometimes people need harsh punishments if they have committed a crime repeatedly.

Planet To Live On

The answer is obvious Ma- Venus Ha you thought I was going to say mars weren't you, HAHAHAHA! So Venus IS better than mars for colonizing because Venus has a magnetic field and thick atmosphere, and on top of that is closer. But wait I hear you saying WAIT BUT VENUS IS THE HOTTEST PLANET IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM IT WOULD BE A BAD IDEA SINCE IT'S SURFACE GETS TO 864 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT! You're right it is super hot but to solve that we would live ABOVE THE SURFACE!!!!!!!! I can see you going WHAT????????????????????????????????????? It's true though we could live in blimps obove the surface of Venus INSTEAD OF LIVING ON A COLD THINNED ATMOSPHERE WITHOUT A MAGNETIC FIELD ON A STUPID PLANET!!!!!! PS. Mars is actually really really cool.

What gives a government the right to rule over people?

I don't believe the government has the right to rule the people in a way that takes away their freedom. The government has a purpose to represent and serve the people. "Ashoka's government promoted the welfare of the people by kind acts such as digging new wells, building hospitals for people and animals, allowing freedom of religion and easing harsh laws." [Concise world History] In this instance the government is helping the people and representing them properly.

Are harsh punishments needed to keep people in line?

If we don't have any punishments then people would think murdering is ok and stealing is ok because there is no punishment for it. So we need to have a balance to know that there is a punishment for something big or small. If we did something like murder, it's a big crime so you would need to have bigger consequences so you can learn that it's not just ok.

IS Geography DESTINY?

In the chapter the ancient Egyptians considered themselves the privileged in there time, because they were next to the nile river. So in a way geography IS DESTINY RIGHT??????? The rest of the Africans were not so lucky because their continent was long rather than wide the African tribes had different land and were contentious with one another because they envied one another for there land. Where as in Europe the land was wide and the people lived peacefully MOSTLY. So Geography is destiny in a way.

The influence of good then vs. now

In this chapter, we saw evidence that some government and religions in ancient societies encouraged their people to be good and fair to each other. Do we see similar evidence in our society?

In modern culture I think we see less of an influence to be good in governments but probably about the same in religion. Society today seems so dead set on letting people be whoever they whomever they be and the line between good and evil is very vague. In religion there is a lot of influence and encouragement to be good and fair, depending upon your religion.

Can civilizations exist without governments to maintain control?

Without any form of government we would be in total anarchy, and even if there are people who wouldn't do bad things there are still people who would take advantage of almost no consequences. I think that there is a balance between absolute tyranny and anarchy.

modern people VS ancient people

Are modern people smarter than ancient people, or do we just have better technology?

I think ancient people were smart and started many of the things we use today and as we continue to grow we gain more knowledge and build on what they started.  We have a lot of technology now that does allows us to advance more quickly. Though, God is the one who gives us knowledge and who controls everything, he has is own timeline for us.

Chapter 2 of Concise History and answer a question at the end of chapter

Watch CNN10

Country project work

Ask your parents to tell you about their experiences on 9/11.

Absolute truth again

I do not think it is possible to discern the truth from myth because often there are several witnesses that see the event from different points of view. Even if you could interview them, the witnesses would each tell the story differently.

Absolute Truth

I chose question 1. The answer is no, because there are so many perspectives on a historical event there is no way to tell which one is correct.

Knowledge of the past

Knowledge of the past can be helpful in living our lives in the present and the future. Mistakes that people have made or things that people have learned can change and effect daily things in our lives. For instance, all of the things that scientists have discovered in history have kept humans from getting deadly illnesses that were once common.

Lessons & Principles

Is it possible to derive lessons or principles from history that might help people to make better decisions in the future?

Absolutely! People say to listen to your elders because they're "older and wiser" than you are and have had more experience. Well this is basically the same concept. People in history have already gone through so many trials and hardships and learned many lessons that we could apply to our lives. We can take the lessons that they have learned and implement what they've learned into our knowledge, to further influence our choices, decisions and ultimately the future.

Can we ever be sure we know the absolute truth about a historical event?

No, I do not think we can know the absolute truth about anything. Everyone has a different perspective on events even if they go through the same event. So, even if we have a person's account of an event it is still influenced by them rather than an exact overview of the event. It's hard to know if it's absolutely true. For example, even people that grow up in the same house will remember and record events differently.  My brother and I talk about vacations differently even though we were there together.
Hello my name is Anna! I love to play volleyball. I also like to be outside in nature camping or just hanging with my friends.

Is democracy fragile like an egg or strong like a rock?

It's fragile like an egg. Everyone needs to do their part to protect democracy but if we don't do our part than its not very strong....
